What is Next For the ACPS?
The ACPS has come a long way from the first meeting in Morristown in 1986 where approximately 40 program collectors gathered to form our society. We have a publication (albeit its been a long time since the last issue was published), a web site that contains information for members and non-members, a sales department where members may purchase scarce programs, an auction and a catalogue that the membership contributed to. It has been a long time since the last catalogue listing and it is now time to update it. We have the opportunity to make a catalogue that in the past would have been price prohibitive. By using the web site we can use color and expand it without worry about the cost of printing. To make it as complete a database as possible I am proposing including all varieties of first day and supplemental ceremony and event programs, official souvenirs, invitations, unveiling programs, presentation albums, and press kits. This will be a Herculean task, much to large for any one individual. However, with the entire society working on it, in time it can be brought up to date. I remember years ago as a member of Rotary International a decision was made to raise $100 million dollars in five years to eliminate polio world wide. This seemed an impossible goal. However, by all the members working together, $200 million dollars was raised in under 3 years and additional diseases were attacked. You as a member are the key for accomplishing this task. Whether you scan in one program or many, your contribution is needed. We will be able to watch the progress together on the web site as the catalogue builds.
The ACPS is going to have a major meeting at Washington 2006. This will be in addition to our annual meeting at Americover. Please plan to join us and attend philately's once in ten year event.
If you have other suggestions please email me at orthok@nac.net or contact any of your officers. I look forward to the exciting times ahead for our society.
