The 2003 Christmas Issues at the ASDA MegaEvent

By Mark Gereb

On October 23, 2003 stamp collectors gathered in New York City for the opening of the semi annual ASDA Stamp Show. In connection with the shows opening, The United States Postal Service released the annual Holiday Stamps. This year's issues were a block of colorful music makers stamps making the contemporary issue and a reformat of last years Madonna and Child Stamp as the traditional issue. In 2002 the stamp is in booklet format. The 2003 stamp is in sheet format.

Listed in the Ceremony Program was Postmaster General John Potter and Public Affairs Officer Azeezaly S. Jaffer. Unfortunately they were unable to attend due to an

urgent postal matter in the south. Also listed was Janet Klug, President of the APS. However, she was at another Philatelic Function.

David Failor, Executive Director of Stamp Services encouraged everyone to enjoy the stamp show. Elizabeth Pope, President of the ASDA, thanked everyone for attending and the Postal Service for the two new stamps. Vinnie Malloy, NY district Postmaster also welcomed all visitors to the ceremony and the stamp show.

During their remarks the covering over the stamp poster on the dais was continually falling off. The three of them then dedicated the stamps.
