Interesting Internet Finds

The internet is similar to a very large stamp show and many unusual items and sometimes scarce programs may be occasionally found.

Program collectors study and document the events and significance associated with the stamp or postal stationary issuance. I was therefore happy find ephemera associated with the 1938 3c Delaware issue (Scott 836). This issue currently has only an event program documenting the occasion so far reported.

The first item is a pass to permit a car to travel through the police lines to and from the dedication ceremony only. The dedication ceremony probably refers to the dedication of the monument given by the people of Sweden to the people of the United States at Fort Christina State Park.

The second item is an invitation from the Wilson Line, Inc to view the ceremonies aboard their ship, the SS "City of Camden". There were two of these invitations for sale. When I received them I noticed that only one appeared to have been used. The used invitation required a signature on the bottom back of the invitation and had a v shaped punch applied to it. The unused invitation had neither a signature nor punch.

The rare ceremony program I obtained was for the General Patton ceremony. At this time I am aware of only three other copies including one in the US Postal Archives currently being stored at the U.S. Postal Museum. None of the program I have seen have a stamp or cancel.

If you have a copy of this program in your collection please let me know so I can add it to the census.

Enjoy adding the internet to your search locations. If you find an unusual item let me know so we can report here and share it with the society.
