Edna Ferber and Teddy Bears Ceremonies
By Leo Stawicki
There were two recent ceremonies in my area that I attended. The First Day Ceremony for the Edna Ferber issue in Appleton, WI. and a second Day for the Teddy Bears in Chicago. Each had a different twist from previous ceremonies Peggy and I attended.
In addition to the generic program from the USPS the Historical Society produced a 6 X 9 illustrated cover to hold the Edna Ferber Generic program of the USPS. This cover was passed out to attendees along with the USPS generic and was unserviced (without stamp or cancel). Similar to supplemental programs issued for Thomas Wolfe, Enrico Fermie
and others that were not part of the subscription service, the same will be true for the Historical Society produced cover for Edna Ferber.

The August 16, 2002 Second Day Ceremony for the Teddy Bear was unusual because it was held in the FAO Schwartz Toy Store during business hours and the programs were distributed also without stamp or cancel. The 2 X 5 foot table that was for sales and canceling was crowded as those who purchased stamps and wanted cancels would do the stamp affixing there as very little other space was available. I went to a nearby postal facility for canceling as we had a previous commitment.
