THE PREZ SAYS
By Michael Litvak
This year, its not AMERICOVER . . . but rather, AMERRYCOVER!
Our 2002 annual ACPS convention will be held, as usual, in conjunction with AMERRYCOVER, the annual convention of the AFDCS . . . in Oak Brook, IL (just outside of Chicago, 20 minutes from OHare), from July 12 to July 14, at the Chicago Marriott Oak Brook Hotel, 1401 West 22nd St., Oak Brook, IL, 60523. Make your reservations now by calling either (800) 228-9290 or (630) 573-8555, referring to the AMERICOVER/AFDCS/MELLONE reservations code. Special rate is $99 per night and cutoff date is June 15.
Remember that the American Society for Philatelic Pages & Panels also holds its annual convention in conjunction with AMERRYCOVER. In addition, the Cachetmakers Association, the 7/1/71 Affair, the Virtual Stamp club, the Art Cover Exchange, and the new United States Presidential Inaugural Philatelic Society will hold meetings, too.
A First Day Ceremony will take place on Friday, July 12, to commemorate the release of the 60c Coverlet Eagle stamp.
Other events planned for the convention include:
--Thursday, July 11, "City Tour the Wright Way": city tour of Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio, Unity Temple, Sears Tower, start of Route 66, Hyde Park, 1893 Exposition, Frank Lloyd Wrights Robey House, Ernest Hemingways home, and more
--Friday, July 12: AFDCS Presidents Banquet & Awards Ceremony
--Saturday, July 13: Cachetmakers Moonlight Bourse, followed by A Friendship 7 Late Night Launch
--Sunday, July 14: Drury Lane Dinner Theatre dinner and performance
For the ACPS, we will have a seminar on Friday, our business meeting and auction on Saturday, and our Hospitality Suite on Saturday evening.
**We need:
--a volunteer to make a presentation at our seminar (contact me immediately)
--members to bring their own programs to place in our auction to enhance our treasury and their wallets
--members to bring programs to trade at our Hospitality Suite
--members to bring goodies (preferably homemade) for our Hospitality Suite
Because of the active philatelic collectors in the Chicago area, and because of the "central" nature of Chicago in relation to the East and West coasts, attendance records at our convention are anticipated to be broken.
Make your hotel and travel reservations now so that you can join us for an AMERRYCOVER weekend in Chicago!
