PERSONAL INVITATIONS

The invitation may be either sent to an individual or be a general purpose invitation in the form of a flyer.

Examples

Both types of invitations come in different forms.

Individual invitations:

The most frequent source of the invitation is the Postmaster General. Illustrated is an invitation to the Cats stamp issue of 1988.

The stamps, of course, were added after the invitation was received.

A more personal invitation is illustrated for the 1948 Palomar Mountain Observatory issue.

Over the years, stamp issuance ceremony programs have evolved from simple invitations to elaborate folios heralding the arrival of a 'great design'. If you've ever encountered an odd-looking piece of postal memorabilia that looks like it might be involved with the issuance of a stamp, this part of our web site can serve as a resource to properly identify your find.
